I haven't read a better story in days. A cop was sent to jail for killing someone. How should we celebrate (not the killing part, the jail part)?!
If you either don't know anything about anarchists or have never lived in an inner city, let me explain my joy. Cops are some of my most-despised people on earth, after business executives and hipsters. There are a lot of valid reasons to hate the police, so let me list a few:
- Cops enforce the law, regardless of how sane the law is. Let's say you had a tough week, and you worked 40 hours. You're driving home on Friday night and you decide "Hey, let me go pick up some cocaine to relax" (does cocaine make you relax? Probably not. I have no idea). So you make a quick stop at your dealer's house. You have the coke in the passenger's seat. You're not planning on doing any until you get home. And just then, a cop pulls you over. And not only does he take the cocaine that you worked hard for, he throws you in jail! And you did nothing wrong. You just violated a stupid, ineffective law.But it doesn't have to be cocaine, if that example makes you uncomfortable. It could be sodomy (sodomy laws were struck down by the Supreme Court but are still on the books in many states) or drinking alcohol on your porch. You're not harming anyone, but a cop will ruin your life because he wants a paycheck.
- Cops kill. Cops rape. Cops beat people. And they get away with it by screaming "Police!" as you lie dead for daring to be a black man holding a wallet. And then those very same cops get away with it.
- Cops draw their guns on unarmed 13-year olds. When I was in 8th Grade, I had a gun pulled on me by a cop. I was told to "get on the goddamned ground" while he illegally searched my pockets and my friend's backpack. My crime? I was being a stupid 8th grader, and blew up an Axe can. Not like I blew it up at anyone, it was in a field. I then had to sit on a curb for 40 minutes while they interrogated my friend and I separately. So excuse me for hating cops. Not only did one of them do this to me, but a half-dozen others came to watch and participate. And I hear stories like this all the time. Every other kid has a story like this. If you think brutality is a few bad apples, you really need to look outside of the suburbs.
